Introduction
Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Lead Mechanic to be placed in Venetia Project. The successful candidate will report to the GES.
The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates.

Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Effective planning, construction and maintenance of fixed infrastructure and equipment
- Stakeholder engagement
- Achievement of equipment installation and maintenance targets
- Effective stakeholder engagement, teamwork and knowledge sharing
- Compliance to quality and safety standards
- Effective self-management and alignment with M&RC values and leadership initiatives
- Effective teamwork and compliance with SHEQ. M&RC and client standards, policies and procedures
- Effective self-management and alignment with M&RC values and leadership initiatives
Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
- N4 in appropriate studies.
- Artisan Fitter Trade Certificate (Section 26)
- Mine-based technical certifications (e.g. Basic Hydraulics and Basic Rigging<3 tons)
- Onsetters Certificate (Advantageous)
- Valid first aid certificate
- Sound verbal and written communication skills in English
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
- 5 years’ experience as an Artisan Fitter in a mining environment (Shaft Sinking-Preferred)
- 5 years practical experience on winders (preferred)
- Basic hydraulics and hydraulic fault-finding
- Sound knowledge of hoisting and ancillary equipment and the functional components thereof
- Sound knowledge of automatic batching plants, screw compressors and pumps
- Sound knowledge of conveyer belt installations
- Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Minerals Act and regulations
- Advanced hydraulics (Preferred)
- OEM specifications for different machines (Preferred)
- Computer literate (Preferred)
- Sound working knowledge of basic hydraulics and hydraulic fault-finding
