Introduction
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of General Worker, to be based at the Environmental/Container Division, Engineering Services, Bentley Park, near Carletonville, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report to the Construction Man.
Job description
The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Minimum requirements
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
· Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
· Technical skills certificate (Angle Grinder and Basic Welding)
· Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
· Good English written and verbal communication skills
· Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness
· Successfully complete MRTA in-house training as per skills matrix for the role
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
· Minimum 1 year of experience working with basic grinding and welding tools and equipment
· Previous working experience in the refurbishment of containers advantageous
· Previous working experience in a water and sanitation environment advantageous
· Must not have a criminal record
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
· Safely provide grinding and welding assistance in the refurbishment of containers
· Provide basic assistance at the sewage plant in line with safety regulations and protocols
· Safely add required chemicals and products to the sewage plant under supervision
· Inspect firefighting equipment monthly as per checklist, escalate defects / non-conformance to supervisor
· Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with standards, procedures, rules and regulations
· Report environmental hazards / incidents timeously to supervisor
· Document actions by completing daily checklists, risk, safety and quality forms
· Comply with M&RC’s standards, procedures, polices and safety protocols at all times
· Effective self-management in alignment with M&RC’s values
