Introduction
Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Mine Overseer to be placed at Mponeng project in Carletonville, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Running the full mining operational cycle in line with legal requirement
  • Be able to fit into a multi-disciplinary team and give direction to the team.
  • Safely achieve production targets in line with contractual requirements
  • Effective Mining operational management (all aspects, ventilation and service extensions, the lining operation, mark, drill and blast cycle)
  • Accurate, timely, relevant administration and reporting in line with legal appointment
  • Effective risk management and compliance with MHSA, SHEQ, M&RC and client requirements
  • Ensuring the safety of all employees under his/her control
  • Enforce and monitor all risk assessment processes and liaise with safety department
  • Be responsible for environmental and housekeeping standards.
  • Be willing to assist in developing new methods of sinking to enhance safety, productivities and efficiencies.
  • Effective self and team management in alignment with M&RC's values and leadership initiatives

Minimum requirements

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF Level 4)
  • Mine Overseers' Certificate of Competency.
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Valid EB Driver's Licence
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Excellent planning, organizing and monitoring skills.
  • Leadership and management skills.
  • Medically fit to work underground ( Including HTS & RFA)
  • Clear criminal record
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Production Mine Overseer and sound knowledge of large excavation development.
  • Experience working with unstable ground conditions, and experience in long anchors, wet-crete and concrete work
  • Experience managing a fleet of fully mechanised equipment and the relevant machine appreciation aspects.
  • Experience in managing the work of subcontractors in a mining / underground environment.
