Introduction
Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer Projects to be placed at Mponeng Project in Carletonville, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.
Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

  • Ability to conduct investigations and record findings
  • Hazard identification skills
  • Analytical with sound attention to detail
  • Observant and perceptive; ability to identify a threat or potential threat
  • Performance and achievement driven
  • Emotionally mature
  • Assertive and independent
  • Basic knowledge of mining operations and methods
  • Basic knowledge of relevant safety principles and systems
  • Strata control
  • Sound interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving mindset with an ability to make recommendations

Minimum requirements

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • National Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent at NQF Level 6 [advantageous]
  • Trade Certificate / Blasting Certificate
  • COMSOC 1 & 2
  • Investigation / Tap Root training (preferred)
  • Audit certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001
  • Valid EB driver's licence
  • Proficient in MS Office [Word, Excel]
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  •    At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role in the mining sector
  •    Ability to conduct investigations and record findings
  •    Experience in relevant safety principles and systems
